Typographical Hierarchy Audio Assignment

Audio file Typographical Hierarchy

Digital Checklist

I decided to create an audio file about Typographical Hierarchy because it is my subject for my 400x project. I wanted to record it in Garage Band but I was having difficulty removing the barking dogs and such so I recorded it in Premiere Rush because I could trim out mistakes easily. I then extracted the audio using an online editor. It wasn’t ideal but it is done.

Usually, when I teach this subject, I either do it live or record a lecture with slides. I also include my slides and notes.

Typographical Hierarchy is an essential subject for design students because it is a system for organizing type that establishes an order of importance within the data, allowing the reader to quickly find what they are looking for and navigate the content. It helps them create better, usable designs.

I chose to make an audio file for this assignment because I read students listen longer and learn more using podcasts than watching a video and reading. So, I adapted my materials to focus less on the visual and more on the content. I realize that students will be able to learn the subject while driving or doing other life tasks. Some don’t have the luxury of watching videos or reading lengthy texts.

But if they wanted to, they could also look at slides of examples to reinforce the content. I mostly saw it as a challenge to see if I could create content about a visual activity in a non-visual way.
