Creative Commons Licensing – Creative Commons licensing never appears on commercial work. If I wasn’t cheap, I would have paid for the license so I wouldn’t have to attribute the work at all. In real-life, I would have had my boss pay for it or charged the client.
Digital Checklist – I had to do some major editing because materials created by a marketing department are much different than materials created for class materials. I don’t want to say it is easier or harder just different. You would never see licensing on marketing pieces but you may see a style guide you must follow or logos to include because of partnerships or sponsorships. So I added conditional logic based upon how you answer the questions. I could have added much more to the marketing form but very few people would do it this way.

Summary – The scenario is that I picked an event from the online event calendar from where I work. I work with the faculty advisor on a different project so it wouldn’t be a stretch for him to have one of my students make a flyer for his club.
The thought behind the logo was to use the college colors to tie into their branding and use a font that was bold enough to read right away and stand out.
The quill serves as a universal symbol for writing. The quill breaking out of the circle is to represent going beyond your comfort zone and expanding your writing skills. The circle represents inclusiveness.
I found an image of a vintage typewriter on Freepik.com. It allows you to use it for commercial work and edited it for free with attribution.
I changed the background, removed several elements, made the paper larger, changed position of coffee cup, removed text and added my own text. I also changed the color of two letters on the keyboard. My client would be Aaron Barrell, faculty advisor at Everett Community College in Everett, WA. I created an 8.5×11 flyer that could be hung on the various bulletin boards on campus.
UPDATE: I actually gave the logo to the faculty advisor and they’re using it for their club.
